FFNC gets tough on abuse and violent conduct

Parents Code of Conduct Football Far North Coast has adopted a get tough approach with players, officials and spectators as they work to stem the tide of abuse within the sporting community.

Responding to a gradual decline in the numbers of referees and club volunteers, FFNC in conjunction with Northern NSW Soccer Federation has introduced a spectator code of conduct which aligns with established codes of conduct for players and officials.

“The 2006 season has not started as positively as we had hoped, especially given the new spectator code of conduct and the provision of signs to all clubs which display the standards of behaviour we expect at FFNC fixtures.  Already a number of senior player’s coaches and managers have shown that they have not heeded the message that we will not tolerate the abuse of referees and club officials”, FFNC General Manager Matt Kelso stated.

“Any person involved with the game who is reported to FFNC for breaching these codes of behaviour will receive the maximum penalties we can apply, so in essence we are putting everyone on notice that we aim to clean up the game,” Kelso concluded.

The basic premise of the Aussie Sports code of behaviour is to promote fair play and respect between players, coaches and officials.  World body FIFA have been promoting the Fair Play message for years, something that is not lost on the local administration as FFNC annually recognize clubs for Fair Play with an award system for teams accumulating the least number of send off and cautions throughout the year.

FFNC are advocates of the Sports Rage initiatives introduced by the NSW Department of Tourism, Sport & Recreation and have been working closely with club administrators and the Department to introduce these strategies into the education systems within football.
