Workers return to form in Southern Cross Credit Union Women’ Premier League

Monday, May 15th, 2006

Lismore Workers resurrected their season yesterday with a convincing 4 - 2 defeat of Byron Bay at the rec grounds.

Workers have been arractic to say the least over the last month losing to Alstonville in a upset as well as league leaders Rovers while only managing a 2 - 1 win over Goonellabah.

This win sees them close the gap on the top three and will set them up nicely for this weekends clash against strugglers Ballina.

The womens team played host to Lismore Workers and eventhough they played well in patches couldnt keep up with the pace of the game going down 4-1.

The Rams were still very much in the game at the break after Amber Rawson slid the ball past the Workers goalkeeper to bring the score to 2-1. However after the break a further two goals to Workers sealed their fate.

Best for Byron were Stevey Lee Ginger, Tanika Hand and Greta Couldwell.

Saints stun Souths in Men’s First Division

Monday, May 8th, 2006

Murwillumbah Saints caused a major upset knocking off the previously unbeaten South Lismore 4 - 1 in First Division action over the weekend.

Souths fielding a slightly weakened line up suffered either from the effects of travel or complacency as they made the trip north to the struggling Saints who excelled with a reshaped defensive line-up.

Tweed Heads secured a morale boosting 1- 1 draw against Pottsville, who have to date looked pretty strong in this league while Bangalow gave their promotion hopes a good lift with a solid 2 - 1 win over Kingscliff.

In other results Alstonville belted Tumbulgum 5 - 0, Woodburn scraped home 2 - 0 against a revitalised Hammers and Burringbar moved into the top four with a comprehensive 3 - 1 win over Uki.

Byron Bay take top spot in Tursa Premier League

Monday, May 8th, 2006

Weekend results from the Tursa Premier League have gone the way of the Byron Rams allowing them to jump local rivals Ballina and take over the top spot in the race for the championship.

And what a game we now have in store for us this weekend when the Seahorses travel to the Bay to wrestle back control.

In other results Goonellabah finally broke through for their first win knocking in 4 goals against a gallant Casino, final score 4 - 2, Ballina scraped home for another draw against Maclean 2 - 2, Thistles worked hard for no return against Workers, with the Redmen running out 4 - 0 winners, and Lennox secured their first home win of the season with a tough 3- 2 result.

The bay though must be well satisfied having come from behind to master Rovers 3 - 1 away from home and set themselves up to gain the benefit of a mixed bag of results from weekend Tursa Premier League fixtures.

Grade 15 Girls break FFNC duck in State Youth League

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006

A great effort by the FFNC Grade 15 Girls team in securing the zones first win in the SSI State Youth League at the weekend.

Running out winners 5 - 0 the girls showed some great committment and put together some fantastic football.

The boys teams also showed some solid improvement and while still without a win as yet it surely is only a matter of time before they too taste success

This weekend we are at home to Mid North Coast who have also struggled so maybe this will give our lads and girls the opportunity to turn the tide.

Thistles gain valuable points in Tursa Premier League

Monday, May 1st, 2006

Lismore Thistles collected a morale boosting 3 points as they accounted for Casino 2 - 0.  Byron Bay look to have jumped to top of the pile after their close shave to Lennox Head finishing with a late Bruce Morhaus goal to get away with a 2 - 1 win.

Ballina held Goonellabah to a 2 - 2 draw while Workers finally found some form handing Stars their second loss on the trot with a 4 - 3 result while down at Maclean the home side could not resist Rovers going down 3 - 1.
