Workers FC have again stumbled to a loss going down to a committed Goonellabah on Tuesday night in Southern Cross Credit Union Women’s Premier League action.

Meeting for the third time this season the Hornets were finally able to gain some revenge from earlier defeats and pick up a valuable three points.

In a tense first half both teams prodded forward neither giving any indication of their weaknesses.  The Hornets though showed more passion and seemed to be spurred on by Australia’s red hot win over Japan in the World Cup on Monday.

Goonellabah held their defensive shape well and this strong formation repelled Worker’s midfielders Kim Wraight and Sheree Coubrough time and time again.

This lack of penetration by Workers caused frustration and finally Goonellabah striker Allison Bell secured a well deserved 1-0 win over her old team with a fiery goal mid-way through the second half.

This success now brings Goonellabah into a three way tie for second place on the ladder alongside Byron and Workers.

This weekend Workers host a struggling Ballina while Alstonville face a huge challenge against the undefeated Richmond Rovers.

Goonellabah travel to Byron Bay for what will be the match of the round after this well earned win.
