Hornets season in the balance
Goonellabah Hornets face what could be a season ending fixture on Sunday when they take on Richmond Rovers in the Tursa Premier League match of the round at Weston Park.
Goonellabah’s form this year has been disappionting with inconsistency blighting any chance they have of defending the Point Score Championship. The last outing against Byron showed some glimpses of the teams potential but the challenge in this second half of the season will be turning this potential into meaningfull results.
Rovers on the other hand started the season solidly but in recent weeks have also succumbed to inconsistency going down to Workers in their last start. A win here is a must if they are to maintain touch with the top two.
Lennox Head and Byron will go into there fixtures as favourites when they meet Maclean and Stars respectively but they will be made to work for the points as both Stars and Maclean have alot to play for, for Lennox the trip to Maclean may be more of a challenge as they conceded 5 the last time these two met.
Ballina will travel to Thistles with nothing but three points on their minds as they aim to move into the top five. With only 6 points seperating third and third last the top five make up is anything but guaranteed.
For Thistles 3 points could get them out of the bottom two and the dogfight for relegation and have them again thinking of a top five spot as well.
For Casino it is now do or die time as they have been rooted to the bottom of the ladder since the season started. The saving grace at this stage is that the only game they have won was against Workers, so an upset could be on the cards.
