Football Far North Coast State Youth League sides will face a monumental task this weekend as they travel down to Newcastle for a double header.
Saturday afternoon will bring the locals up against the high flying Macquarie Zone who recently put FFNC to the sword in all grades.
Saturday’s fixtures will be followed with another grueling encounter when they take on Newcastle & Port Stephens at Speers Point.
With FFNC currently sitting outside the top four and both Macquarie and Newcastle firmly ensconced at the top of the pack it will be a case of do or die if FFNC harbour any thoughts of a final play off spot.
In fixtures last weekend at Oakes Oval FFNC showed that they still have some improvement left in them when met up with Hunter Valley.
While the results went against the locals all teams showed that with continued effort they can trouble their more fancied rivals.
Hopes are high of further improvement this weekend.
Burringbar Bandits fresh from their 6 – 1 demolition of South Lismore in FFNC Men’s First Division football last weekend will face another huge test when they host third placed Bangalow at 3.00pm.
The Bandits moved to top spot after this resounding success and have proved many of the doubters wrong in the process. Bangalow are also coming off a solid performance having disposed of the talented Alstonville side 2 – 0, so the scene is certainly set for a bruising and desperate encounter.
Tuesday night Tweed Heads traveled to Alstonville for a catch up game from earlier in the season, where the match official failed to show, but the hosts could not match it with their northern counterparts going down 1 – 0 to round out a disappointing week.
This Saturday Alstonville should take the tree points on offer when the play Murwillumbah Hammers while for Tweed Heads will face the dangerous Kingscliff who last weekend burst Murwillumbah Saints bubble.
Elsewhere Pottsville will travel to Tumbulgum, South Lismore will head up the mountain to Uki and Saints will be up against the much improved Woodburn.

Sundays Tursa Premier League fixture between Lennox Head and Workers FC is set to produce some fireworks with both sides looking to capitalize on other results over the weekend.
With Lennox sitting in 2nd place on the ladder any slip up by leaders Byron Bay will give the Sharks the chance to jump to the lead. Workers on the other hand will be desperate to stay in touch with the leaders as another loss here will open the door for the top four sides to put some more distance between them.Workers will host Lennox at Richards Oval from 2.30pm Sunday.Goonellabah face a tough encounter against the inconsistent Maclean with both sides coming off less than flattering results last week. The Bobcats lost further ground on the leaders when they went down to Thistles 4 – 2 while the Hornets struggled to grab a draw against local rivals Italo Stars. Weston Park will be the venue for this challenge from 3.00pm Saturday.
Richmond Rovers should have the easier game this week when they travel to Casino, but with a 5.00pm kickoff and the Cobras at home Rovers will not want to be complacent.
Lismore Thistles will be hoping to catch Byron Bay napping when the Rams travel to town. Byron was lucky to get away with the three points against Workers FC last week while Thistles will go into the game with a lot of confidence after their win away to Maclean.
This should be a tense affair at Thistles #1 from 3.00pm
In the remaining fixture Italo Stars will travel to Saunders Oval, Ballina for a 5.00pm start, where both teams will be desperate to get away from the relegation zone.
