Workers humble Byron, while Maclean bag 9.

Workers FC caused the upset of the season in miserable conditions at Richards Oval on Saturday when they demolished Byron Bay 5 - 2.

Banging in five unanswered goals in the first half Byron were left shellshocked and bedraggled as their hold on the Tursa Premier League slipped from their grasp. A couple of late goals saved some embarrassement for the Rams but this is one game they will want to forget.

In other sensational results Maclean destroyed Thistles 9 - 1 at Wherrit Park and moved to the top of the table for the first time this year. For Thistles this will have alarm bells ringing, as they must fix their defence if they are to escape relegation.

In other results Rovers managed to scrape past Ballina 1 - 0 at a muddy Saunders Oval, Casino held Lennox Head to a 1 - 1 draw and showed they are not a spent force just yet, and Goonellabah halted Stars recent good run of form with a 1 - 0 win.

Tuesday night Ballina battled hard against Bryon in a local derby in the first installment of the Rams catch up games. With the Seahorses fighting relegation and the Rams keen to get back on top of the ladder the 1 - 0 win to the Byron proved to be a little disappointing. The match promised a lot but didn’t really live up to expectations and leaves the Seahorses still clinging to survival.
