Suns and Allstars overun North Coast in weekend Rep fixtures
The FNC Suns and FNC Allstars put the dramas of player withdrawals behind them on Saturday at Oakes Oval as they showed their class over a strong and determined North Coast Football Select.
The Suns started the afternoon well going ahead to a well taken goal to Broden Hirst (Maclean) before Matt Parrish (Thistles) delivered a gem of a corner for Tom Inoue (Bangalow) to blast a fantastic header home.
North Coast Colts then grabbed back some respect with a Dave Funnel strike just before the break. But the Suns were not to be denied a well deserved win this time and Shane Summerfield completed the day with a solid strike from the penalty spot. The Suns running out 3-1 winners.
In the main game the Allstars started brightly with an intense burst but just as they did in the first game this energy dissipated and NCF were allowed back into the match causing some trouble amongst the rearranged back four of Cranmer, Rudgley and the Austen brothers.
However the locals rallied through the leadership of Bruce Morhaus (Byron) who took the game to the visitors and was well rewarded with a goal on 35 minutes.
Unfortunately just as they did in the first game NCF equalised soon after with a clean strike to Brady Parker. This effort again sparked the Allstars into action, and proved that they were not going to settle for second best.
A mazy run and sweet shot from Bruce Morhaus put the lads back into the lead prior to the break and secured a solid platform for the second period.
Following the break the Allstars worked hard in pushing for the decisive strike which was delivered by Kevin Crofton (Maclean) from a free kick just outside of the box. Further strikes to Johnathan Pierce (Byron) and Jordy Campbell (Byron) put the game out of reach for NCF before Anthony Baston secured a consolation goal.
The final 5-2 result was just reward for the Allstars who relished the home ground atmosphere.
