FFNC will be entering 3 teams into the girls section of the Queensland State Youth League for 2009 at U-13, U-14 & U-16.

Players born from 1993 to 1998 are welcome to trial and the FFNC look forward to seeing you there. The QSYL provides a high standard competition for all our Junior players, providing clear pathways for our female players into State teams.

The inception of the new National Women’s League will take the Women’s/Girl’s game to a completely different level. We hope to be putting girls into State, National & International teams regularly over the next few years.

FFNC are very proud of the fact that in 2008 we have had 7 girls selected to represent Northern New South Wales at State level.

I look forward to seeing you at the trials.–

FFNC offer Youth a step up

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Football Far North Coast’s planned Summer Youth League will provide local clubs an outstanding opportunity to recruit young players and develop them into seniors capable of playing at the top end of the FFNC senior men’s and women’s competitions.

FFNC General Manager Matt Kelso believes the concept is an opportunity the clubs must respond too, “for the last two to three years we have seen a decline in the numbers at under 16 & 15 level and that obviously filters through to the senior teams. Clubs playing in FFNC’ Premier League and Newton Denny Chapelle First Division as well as the Southern Cross Credit Union Women’s Premier League need to keep recruiting to maintain strong player rosters. The Summer Youth League provides the opportunity to build up their clubs with a strong youth platform. The same opportunity is also there for clubs not presently represented in the top two leagues. If they have aspirations to move up a division and build their senior club this is an opportunity not to be missed.”

Competitions for both males and females aged 15 to19 will be operating with the league commencing on Friday 17th October and concluding on Friday 19th December. With fixtures scheduled for Friday nights the players can still be involved in the traditional summer sports.

Opportunities for talented players don’t stop with the league either as the A-League is expanding to include a youth league and the commencement of the W-League further extends our local players chances at moving into professional football. “We deliberately followed the trend for youth football as we see the moves at the professional level enhance our own leagues and for a young player aged 15 or 16 they respond tremendously well to this type of developmental league. All coaching staff must be FFA Licensed further enhancing the development process for players, Kelso said.”

Time is running out though with applications closing on August 15.grab your application now!!!

Pottsville & Thistles upset league leaders

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Pottsville Panthers and Lismore Thistles ensured round 13 of the FFNC Premiership was one to remember with huge upset wins over the league leaders.

Pottsville will take the bragging rights as the first team to defeat reigning champions Richmond Rovers this year and to do so away from home makes the result even more remarkable.

Rovers struggled for consistency throughout the match and the send off of midfielder Aaron Heffernan compounded the frustration of this first up loss. The surprise though is that Rovers struggled against the Panthers in round 3 only scraping a 2-2 draw, and most pundits expected them to go into the game full of determination to dominate the visitors.

However it was not to be with goals to Josh Boag and Simon Everingham and a huge dying minutes penalty save from keeper Nathan Wilson securing the points for Pottsville. Rovers only goal came from midfielder Ben Casagrande.

Lismore Thistles continue to defy the form guide as well with a solid 1 - 0 win over second placed Lennox Head. Lennox approached the game with a defensive attitude and suffered from the lack of adventure, creating little going forward.

Thistles always looked dangerous and following the dismissal of Lennox keeper Tye McDonald for a foul on striker Tom Boland raised their intensity, bombarding stand in keeper Pete O’Neill in the later stages of the match.

They were made to wait some time though to grab the decisive strike with Jacob Arthur scoring from the edge of the box, giving the home side the 3 points.

In other fixtures Italo Stars extended their winning streak to nine games with a 1-0 win over Byron Bay, Ballina secured third spot on the table with a 3-0 win over Bangalow and Workers gave their survival hopes a boost with a 2-2 draw against Goonellabah.
