FFNC edges out Wide Bay in Rebel Sport JPL

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Football Far North Coast edged past Wide Bay yesterday with three wins from 5 matches in the FQld Rebel Sport Junior Premier League.

FFNC Grade 13 Girls got the day off to a flyer with an emphatic 4 - 1 demolition of  Wide Bay while at the same time the FFNC Grade 12 side was going down to a similar scoreline.

The following fixtures involving the 13’s and 15’s boys went a similar direction leaving the 14’s to salvage a win and take home bragging rights from this first north v south encounter.

The lads didn’t let us down running home 4 - 2 winners to the delight of the FFNC camp.

Overall it was a good performance with outstanding efforts from Georgia Keen and Keanu Sparkes-Young both grabbing a brace.

Well Done everyone. Check out the latest points tables

This coming weekend we are off to Stanthorpe so check out the travel details here!!

Rovers, Thistles and Byron bang in 15 goals

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Round 2 of the Tursa Anzac Cup proved to be a massive goal fest as Rovers, Thistles and Byron smashed in 15 goals between them in Premier Division.

Only the Lennox Head v Bangalow derby ended goal less as a total of 22 goals bulged the nets.

In Open A, Open B and Grade 16 the trend was similar with the biggest thrashing of the weekend going to Goonellabah as they put 14 into the big sack.

All up a total of over 104 goals were scored in just 27 games - thats a whopping 4 goals a game - who said football wasn’t entertaining!!!

Keepers hold the key in NDC Grand Final

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

The form of goalkeepers Luke Godfrey (Tweed) & Mitchell Pickford (Thistles) could be the major factor in determining who will win the Newton Denny Chapelle Championship Grand Final at Oakes Oval on Saturday.

The two NDC Championship heavy weights will go into the grand final with nothing between them as previous bragging rights were shared and the major semi-final went to penalties before Tweed gained the advantage.

Both Tweed and Lismore Thistles boast solid defensive lines, but the efforts of Godfrey and Pickford in saving penalties has not gone unnoticed.

Tweed will be at full strength, while Thistles will be without the suspended Mitchell Rees, after the defender was sent off last weekend. They do however share the same degree of confidence, Tweeds from having overcome Thistles in the major semi and Thistles from their solid come from behind win over Pointscore Champions Pottsville last Sunday.

The expected outcome is anticipated to be very close and penalties may well be on the cards.

The North v South battle will kick off at 6.45pm with a large crowd expected to cheer on their local heroes.

Players, volunteers and sponsors recognised at gala night.

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Football Far North Coast recognised the efforts of teams, players and outstanding volunteers at the annual awards night recently in front of a strong 300 + crowd.

Two highlights of the night were the award of Club Champion to Lismore Thistles who capped a remarkable year and to long serving Rovers secretary Jill Hepburn who was awarded the “Dedication to Football Award” for her outstanding contribution as a club volunteer…..More

Workers grab Premier League life line!!

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Spectators, life members, committe and Workers FC players are all breathing a sigh of relief with their sucessful conclusion to the Premier League Play Off.

On the back of a 2 - 0 win over Alstonville FC the “Redmen” will again feature in the Premier League in 2008.

On a very cold and extremely wet Tuesday evening last week Workers controlled the tempo in a fairly dour affair grabbing two valuable goals, one in each half to Todd Gordon and Anthony Alvos.

Alstonville left nothing on the bench as they pushed to gain a foothold on the match but a resolute Workers defence kept the “Villa’s” strike force well under control.
